How Wide Is a Side-by-Side? UTV Width, Length and Height by Model

Most full-size side-by-sides are 62 to 65 inches wide and about 10 to 11 feet long. Width, length and height for 2026 Polaris, Can-Am, Honda, Kawasaki and CFMOTO models from the manufacturers' spec sheets, plus what fits a trail gate, a trailer and a garage.

Most full-size side-by-sides are 62 to 65 inches wide and 116 to 130 inches long, about 10 to 11 feet. Trail models are built to 50 inches so they fit width-restricted trails, mid-size utility machines run 56 to 60 inches, and long-travel sport machines reach 72 to 78 inches. A four- or six-seat crew model adds 2 to 4 feet of length, to roughly 145 to 165 inches.

Every figure below is the manufacturer’s own number for a 2026 model (2027 where noted), from the spec sheets on our model pages. Dimensions are length x width x height, and they change by trim, tires and accessories, so check the exact model before you measure a gate or a garage.

How Wide Is a 50-Inch Side-by-Side?

50 inches, the limit manufacturers build to so the machine qualifies for trails designated for vehicles 50 inches wide or less. Many trails on national forest land carry that restriction, and the Forest Service’s motor vehicle use maps show which ones. The Polaris RZR Trail, Honda Pioneer 520 and CFMOTO ZFORCE Trail models are all 50 inches. Our guide to 50-inch side-by-sides compares them.

How Long Is a Side-by-Side?

A two- or three-seat side-by-side runs about 105 to 130 inches, roughly 9 to 11 feet; long-travel sport machines stretch to 140. Crew models with a second row run about 145 to 165 inches, 12 to 14 feet. The longest machine in the tables above is the four-seat Can-Am Maverick R MAX at 180 inches, 15 feet.

How Tall Is a Side-by-Side?

About 68 to 83 inches with the factory roof. Sport machines sit lowest; the CFMOTO ZFORCE Z10 and Can-Am Maverick X3 are under 69 inches. Cab and HVAC utility machines sit highest, such as the Kawasaki Ridge Crew at 83.3 inches.

Will a Side-by-Side Fit in My Garage?

A standard 7-foot garage door opening is 84 inches tall, so every machine in these tables clears it on height, but the tallest cab models leave less than 2 inches. A light bar, antenna or taller tires can use that up. Width is rarely the problem: even a 78-inch sport machine fits a 9-foot (108-inch) single door, with little room to spare.

Will a Side-by-Side Fit in a Truck Bed?

Not with the tailgate closed. The shortest machine here is 105 inches long, longer than an 8-foot (96-inch) bed, and full-size widths of 62 to 65 inches are wider than the space between most beds’ wheel wells. A trailer is the normal way to haul one.

What Size Trailer Do You Need for a Side-by-Side?

Match the deck to the machine’s width first. The space between the trailer’s fenders needs to be wider than the machine:

  • 50-inch trail models: a 5-foot-wide deck works.
  • 56 to 60 inches: a deck at least 5 feet wide; a 6-foot deck leaves room to walk around.
  • 62 to 65 inches: a 77-inch (6.5-foot) deck or wider.
  • 72 inches and up: a 7-foot deck or a car hauler.

For length, a two-seater around 120 inches fits a 12-foot trailer with room for the ramp gate, and a crew model around 150 to 165 inches needs 14 to 16 feet. We stock utility trailers and can match one to the machine you buy.
