Atlanta, Idaho: The Payoff at the End of a Long Dirt Road

Almost nobody lives in Atlanta and a great many people ride to it. The town sits deep in the Boise National Forest at the head of the Middle Fork, reached by miles of shelf road that sorts out machines and drivers in roughly equal measure, and the hot springs and the old mining ground around it are the reason people keep making the trip.

This is not a place to arrive on a marginal machine. Long forest-road climbs at elevation are hard on clutching and cooling, cell coverage quits well before the road does, and the nearest help is hours behind you. A winch, a spare belt and honest tires are not accessories on this route.
